Do you want to make a difference in a teen’s life?

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) – Utah is recruiting teachers so they can start offering classes for teens with mental health conditions and  their parents or caregivers in Summit County.  The two-day training is free and includes a teacher’s manual, all materials, and delicious food.  NAMI trainings are known for being inspiring, while well preparing teachers for success.

Basics Teacher Requirements

NAMI Basics is a six-week course for parents or caregivers of youth with mental health conditions, where participants learn the basics of mental illness, treatment options, communication tips, and most importantly how to advocate for their children in various systems (school, medical, disability, juvenile justice).  Classes are taught by teachers who have personal experience raising youth with  mental health conditions.

Progression Teacher Requirement

NAMI Utah’s Progression is a six-week course designed to be taught at the same time as Basics but in a different room. Progression is a free 6-week course for youth ages 13-18 who have a mental health condition. It is a safe place to learn about mental illness, diagnosis, triggers, treatments, stigma, self-care, and recovery.  Teens learn via manuals, video clips, phone apps, internet searches, art projects, journaling, music, games and more.  It is taught by young adults who themselves have experience as a young person with a mental health condition.
