Please join CONNECT on three consecutive Thursdays beginning June 8th for “Dementia Aware Utah,” a free training course taught and facilitated by Anne Asman of the University of Utah and Sheryl Bagshaw of Dementia Assist designed to educate individuals who care for persons who exhibit signs and symptoms associated with Alzheimer’s Disease or related dementias. A dementia diagnosis is life changing, not only for the one who is diagnosed, but for their loved ones.  Anyone who has a loved one with a diagnosis of Dementia is welcome.  The three modules will address:

  1. Overview of Brain Function and Dysfunction:   Introduction to Cognitive Impairment/Dementia, the Causes, Signs and Symptoms, Treatment Strategies, and Advocacy.
  2. Understanding Communication:  Communication Issues with Dementia.
  3. Identifying Challenging Behaviors and Environments:  Problems and Solutions, Effective techniques, and Non-pharmacological strategies.

Caregivers will come away with a better understanding of  dementia as a disease as well as dynamic tools to help them maintain a good quality of life for themselves and their loved ones.

This class is FREE and will be taught by Anne Asman of the University of Utah. The June 22nd class will be held in Library Room 201.
